India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections posted a strong performance in October 2025, climbing 4.6% year-on-year to ₹1,95,936 crore. This marks one of the highest gross collections recorded, and is attributed mainly to increased consumer buying during the festive season and the easing impact from September’s GST rate cuts. The Central GST (CGST) contributed ₹36,547 crore, State GST (SGST) added ₹45,134 crore, while IGST collections surged to ₹1,06,443 crore. Notably, the tax from imports rose 12.8% while domestic GST grew by 2%. Refunds also saw a sharp jump, with a 39.6% year-on-year increase to ₹26,934 crore. GST Revenue Components for October 2025 (in Crore Rs) Experts say the 56th GST Council’s reforms, which streamlined rates and made numerous essentials cheaper, boosted demand for kitchen items, electronics, vehicles, and more. The resurgent festival spirit and pent-up consumer demand after months of subdued spending were major contributors to the revenue spike. Despite a 30% drop in cess collections (except sin goods), the revenue rise showcases the Indian economy’s resilience amid evolving tax and consumption patterns. States like Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Ladakh even saw double-digit GST collection growth.
